Here's a classic: It's the very first Melanie video that most people discover and makes them say "Wow, who is this girl?"

In this song she seems to have created a new yodeling style known only to her! Shocked

That's the song I most associate Melanie with. Smile

And she has a great family band, they are perfectly suited to her yodeling.

Ever heard any slow yodeling? This is one of the most amazing performances ever, featuring Melanie Oesch, Angela Wiedl, and Herlinde Linder.

It starts out with each singing a verse of the very emotional Austrian anthem Johann Jodeler. Then all three join together in the fast yodeling song Bravourjodler. Incredible singing! Shocked

The orchestra is amazing on both songs, too! Surprised

That video should be required viewing at least once a year for anyone who claims to be a yodel fan. Razz

NEW OESCH VIDEO--

The Oesch's made a recent (2013) appearance at Musikantenstadl (aka "the Fake Chalet"). They do a medley of 4 songs as follows...

* Jodeln ist Cool
* Bravour Jodeler
* [I don't recognize this one]
* Ku Ku Jodel

So I wanted to call attention to Ku Ku Jodel which starts at 2:37 because I think Melanie sounds much more highly polished than ever. Personally I think Ku Ku Jodel, as an example of songwriting, is clumsy and ugly so it says a lot for Melanie that she can perform it with such finesse. It really does sound better than ever on this video.

Ku Ku Jodel is the one Melanie song that seems to have created the most stir among people. There are people out there who have made valiant efforts to do covers of this song and they are to be commended for their ambition and for even making it recognizable but the truth is that they mostly sound like dying tropical birds. Only Melanie has ever been able to sing this song. Note to all others: Warning--do not attempt this stunt at home!!

Yes, Melanie owns Ku Ku Jodel. I've also heard other attempts, by very brave and ambitious people, but they can't quite make it work. I give them buckets of credit for trying though.

If I could see any performer on any stage in the world, Melanie at the Fake Chalet would be at or very near the top of my list. Razz

It would be a lot of fun to go to one of those Café-Schlager style concerts! In America when they build a concert venue they cram as many seats as possible into the space so you're jammed against some stranger, and they want to confiscate your camera and cooler at the gate. Then if you get hungry or thirsty you have to miss part of the concert and go stand in line to buy overpriced snacks. In Europe they have all these huge spaces with chairs and tables, too, where beautiful women in dirndl dresses bring you all the beer and pretzels your heart desires and you can dance on top of your table if you wish! I guess it's all overpriced, too. Rolling Eyes But still....

So the first one to get a million dollars has to pay for the rest of us to go (including airfare and hotel). Too bad Coline and Satine aren't going on to win Paris. They'd be out a lot of airfare, haha! Laughing

Sometimes they have concerts at baseball stadiums. I wonder if vendors circulate around the audience with beer and hot dogs like they do when they play baseball. Smile

America needs a fake chalet. Over priced or not, I'd go there at least once, just to see what it's like. Razz

At our county fair, bands play on small stages, and people can sit at picnic tables. All within arm's length of the beer tent, where you can also buy burgers and pizza. But the acts are only local talent, not big names. Rolling Eyes
